TeamSpeak Client is a voice communication software package.

TeamSpeak Client comes from the company TeamSpeak and is available for Windows PC. The software offers voice communication through the Internet and is often used for multiplayer online games. Part of the software includes a design which means the client software, and the server software are cleanly separated. The server end of the software can run as a dedicated server. Usually with this type of software players would have to set up peer-to-peer connections, which can be risky depending on the network setup.

Peer to peer means direct connection between computers via the Internet, which can open up a player's PC to a host of virus and malware injections when there are open ports.

The server software which comes with TeamSpeak has been built for a large volume. It can host thousands of clients or users. It is created to enable users to teleconference via the Internet with several applications, for use as an alternate form of conference calls. Benefits of this include no long-distance charges. It can also be used to communicate only with friends or family.

TeamSpeak client requires 26.81MB of space for installation. The user must be running Windows XP or above in either 32 or 64 bit. Speakers and a microphone will be needed in order to utilise the client. An SSE2 capable CPU is necessary, and 20-60 MB of RAM. The recommended minimum RAM is 1 GB. Hard disc space should be 60-100 MB free.

For the TeamSpeak server part of the software, the computer specifications are as follows: Windows XP and newer, 32 or 64 bit, SSE2 capable CPU, and a minimum of 1 GB RAM are recommended. Minimum installation is 15 MB and the final hard-drive space used will depend upon usage, size, and quantity of virtual servers. The memory usage will vary too based on the number as well as size of the hosted virtual servers.

Examples of uses for TeamSpeak are: role-playing and multi player online games, family chats, business conferences, workshops interacting live with material on a website and more.

It is best to use a headset with microphone. Players will otherwise need to activate their push to talk button. Leaving the communication open to feed from built-in microphone to speakers can create a distorting echo loop effect.

The company TeamSpeak came up with the software after discovering that existing solutions were not in line with their needs. After working on it for a year, it was released offering less bandwidth than other software, simple interface, and a firewall and router compatible design. There have been two more editions since the TeamSpeak classic one.
